Dodge Reveals Their 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Charger in Las Vegas

If you’re like many people, NASCAR races just get boring after awhile. Sure, there is a certain degree of competition and driver skill that can’t be denied, but watching cars that all look about the same going in hundreds of circles gets to be rather mundane.

Thankfully, that’s changing for the 2013 Sprint Cup season. While racers will still travel hundreds of laps in the same circular pattern, the cars will look a little bit different thanks to more lax rules and manufactures helping to make their competitive cars look more like their street versions. As we found out from Autoblog, one of the new cars will be the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Charger officially revealed at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway last weekend. And if looks could win races, this bad boy would already have a podium position.

Unlike in the good ‘ole days, the cars that compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series today have moved away from their manufactured counterparts in a major way. While rules and regulations have resulted in race cars that barely resemble their street versions, NASCAR fans have been calling for more distinguishable competitors.

Lucky for them, they’re getting what they asked for with the new batch of Sprint Cup stock cars set to hit the racing circuit next year.

Along side the Ford Fusion Sprint Cup car will be the new Dodge Charger.

With NASCAR easing up the rules on where manufacturers can put glass and major body panels, as well as changing regulations for overall structure of the body, the new Mopar competitor looks very similar to the street version. The more distinguished body lines, sloping front windshield and front grill of the Charger Sprint Cup car are almost identical to the factory car and will allow fans to more easily pick out their favorite Dodge competitors in the field come 2013.

“The race fans delivered a clear message,” said SRT CEO Ralph Gilles in a press release about the Charger’s unveil. “NASCAR listened. We went to work, following the guidelines established for all manufacturers by NASCAR. The Dodge Charger revealed today validates our resolve to deliver a product that will be easily identifiable on the track without compromise in the area of competition.”

The reveal of the new Charger Sprint Cup car comes after Penske Racing announced earlier that they will be terminating their relationship with Dodge for the 2013 race season in order to pursue the new Ford Fusion Sprint Cup car. While this was a definite blow to Dodge, Gilles remained upbeat at the car’s unveil, saying that Dodge has already had a lot of interest from teams in the car and hopes to announce who will be using the Charger next year by the middle of this summer.
