Like the Mercury Cougar and it’s connection to older ladies, a certain low speed chase through LA in 1994 brought much unwanted notoriety to Ford’s Bronco nameplate and for better or for worse, both of these hallowed FoMoCo models are probably banished to the automotive scrapheap forever. Too bad, because in their heyday, they were the crown jewels of Dearborn.
All is not lost though. If you’re a Bronco fan, sheet metal gurus Dynacorn have just announced they’re offering a repro body of the Ford’s smaller, First-Gen SUV. Now you can build a new Bronc to order and forget about waiting for the bad ju-ju reputation to wear off.
Dynacorn was already manufacturing replacement steel bodywork for early Broncos and when Ford asked them to undertake the project a few years back they jumped in. The bodies will be accurate reproductions but they’ll add a twist by combining features from different Bronco model years. Extra bracing for removable roofs, folding windshields and engine bay stampings that accept power steering to name a few. The body comes sans hood, doors and front fenders but are available from Dynacorn and other manufacturers so the additional parts needed are plentiful and easy to locate. Official licensing designation is still a ways off, so look for this body in the next year or so. Pricing remains unannounced, but should surface shortly before the bodies hit market.
We’ll build ours with 302 Ford power, just the right amount of lift and M&S tires, radiused rear wheel wells, Ted Nugent riveted fender flares all the way around and a nice shade of grey primer and call it good.
