Whether it’s the perception of the car, or the car itself that closes the sale come next Wednesday, it matters not; the winner will have to himself a car that expresses who he is–a little bit of everything, minus the stuff that slows anything down. Let’s check out what this 1927 Model A coupe has to offer.
Under the hood, we have a 1962 Studebaker V8, displacing 289 cubic-inches and making over 250 horsepower on its own. It’s supported by a Weiand 2×2 intake with Holley 94 carbs, and it’s power is channeled smoothly into a 1957 Studebaker transmission and out to a Ford 9-inch rearend.
Structure is kept with a boxed 1926 Buick frame that was flipped upside down (“underslung”, as the seller puts it) and fitted with several custom-made crossmembers. Air-bagged suspension lets users manipulate ride height to their heart’s delight, and braking is supplied by some sturdy 1953 F100 drums.
The interior mixes up multiple influences, with a Gennie shifter, Studebaker steering wheel, Studebaker speedometer, and Nash Metropolitan dashboard. All-new carpeting and glass bring the refinement up a few notches, while panels featuring handmade engine turning represent a nice additional touch.
All in all, a pretty great car; but is it a pretty great price? The bidding will go nowhere but up as time marches on, so we can only guess as to where it’ll wind up once the timer stops. What do you say? How high will the bids go for a custom like this?
