In the world of custom builds and musclecars, we have seen all sorts of engine swaps. Some are good, but cross the imaginary line that separates die-hard enthusiasts, and others are great and just seem to please everyone. This particular Charger has been through a complete resto-mod, and the engine swap that took place is one of those great ones that seems to work.
We’ve seen a Viper V-10 in a classic Charger, in a Classic ‘Cuda, and even in a 1930 Rolls-Royce that looks right at home. But something about this 1968 Charger is just a little over the top. Sure, we’ve also seen twin-turbo V-10s with enough torque to slam your head against the headrests, but this Charger just looks cool from every angle, and the Viper mill fits so well between the fenders.
The first thing we noticed on this eBay find, is the steamrollers out back, then we noticed that a couple of pics had the stance a little lower. This Charger is also equipped with an air ride suspension, and it doesn’t seem that you could tuck those rear meats up into the wheelhouse any further, but it all fits.
It’s only up on eBay for a couple more days from the time of this article, but a $100,000 bid was still shy of the reserve, so it’s possible we may see this again if it doesn’t see a second – or third – bid in the closing hours.
If the paint doesn’t draw you in, then possibly the ultra clean and custom interior with a full set of Auto Meter Pro-Comp gauges and in-car theater system will appeal to you. Or maybe you’re just like us and consider all that just icing on the cake and you simply want to drive the hell out of it.
The custom touches are enough to make this car a decent cruiser, too: Vintage Air A/C, power rack and pinion, four-link rear suspension, Dana 60 spinning 4.56 gears and four-wheel disc brakes tucked up inside Boyd Coddington wheels.
The pistol-grip six-speed and the V-10 are enough to get it moving; how far will be up to the person who decides to take it home. Do you think this custom build is worth a hundred large? It’s hard to resist a custom Mopar like this, and fortunately for some of the purists, the engine upgrade stayed in the family.
