eBay Find: 1976 Granada Four-Speed Sport Coupe – Potential Sleeper

Looking for something different? This eBay find might be right up your alley. Ford built a ton of Mustangs and for good reason, they were and still are immensely popular. Mustangs started the pony car revolution and have produced some iconic musclecars. The Mustang shares it’s platform with the Maverick, Comet, Falcon, Cougar and Granada.

The Granada, and to some extent it’s cousins the Mercury Monarch and Lincoln Versailles, actually have pretty sporty lines. The long hood, short trunk and two-door configuration are all recipes for success in many other more popular musclecars. Lower the front of this Granada a couple of inches and you would have an iconic and aggressive stance.

What’s so special about this particular Granada? It’s a 4-speed Sport Coupe with a 302 V-8. Not widely available and was probably special ordered in that configuration from the factory. It has some special touches like bucket seats, factory center console and Magnum 500 stamped steel wheels to set it apart from the herd. With power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning you’ll be riding in comfort and style while looking for your next victim to surprise.

You could keep this car as is and drive a unique grocery-getter or do a little work and create the ultimate sleeper. The foundation is already there with a nine-inch differential hiding under those boxy flanks.

Granadas came with quality front disc brakes, in fact a popular early Mustang modification is to use the front disc brakes from a Granada and simply bolt them in place of the drums. You could easily have four wheel disc brakes by swapping in a complete rearend from a Lincoln Versailles from the same generation.

Engine choices could go from mild to wild. You could keep the 302 and give it some mild massaging, upgrade to a 351 Windsor, or even a stroker motor as large as 427 cubic inches without having to modify mounts or firewall. Physically, the engine bay can accommodate a big-block if you feel like exercising your fabrication skills and going to the wild side. What would you do with it?

If you’re looking for a sleeper or just want something unique, give this Granada a look.
