If you’re a FoMoCo fan and like Mercury pony cars, check out this very cool, restored banana yellow 1970 Cougar Eliminator that recently popped up on Ebay.  This is a nice example of the Mustang’s bedazzled stable mate, and if you have a hankerin’ for a sweet hi-po version, this one might fit the bill. 1970 was the last hurrah before the Cougar ballooned up to Clydesdale class, and after 1973 it morphed into a gussied up Montego. For many, that was the final nail in the coffin for fans of Merc’s gentleman’s hot rod. 

Located in Fredrickburg, Texas, seller says this restored car is 1 of 2267 Eliminator models produced that year and is optioned with a 351C V-8, automatic, PS, PB and air conditioning. The motor’s been breathed on by AMS Racing Services out of Bossier City, LA and has dynoed out at 313 hp with stock intake, cam, 4-barrel carburetor and  factory dual exhaust.

All the cool Cougar DNA is intact including sequential turn signals, hideaway headlights, upscale black interior, console and full instrumentation. Along with the performance upgrades, the Eliminator package was gussied up with stripes, hood scoop and unique badging and all are present and accounted for.

Topping it all off, this Cougar rolls out on BF Goodrich radials mounted on styled steel factory mags that, while not original, add just the right amount of 60’s bling to the car.

 The “buy it now,” price is $42K and that seems like a lot of dough for a small block example, but you couldn’t restore it for that much so maybe the seller isn’t out in la-la land on the price. What do think, hit or miss?
