It’s that time again, where we find a prospective auto buy on our favorite auction site, eBay. We do our best to bring our readers something different to look at when we share these, while also trying to appeal to as many of them as possible. Sometimes it can be a tall order, but somehow we usually manage.

Take this ’67 Oldsmobile 442 convertible for instance. It’s not the most popular body style of the A-body ever made, nor the fastest, but it’s among the most overlooked and it’s not as expensive as say, a ’70 W-30 example in this condition. That’s OK, because we dig it regardless.

The 4-4-2 definition changed a few times over the years, but in ’67 it meant; 400ci engine, 4bbl carburetor, and dual (2) exhaust pipes. Known as “the gentleman’s muscle car” the 400-equipped Oldsmobile was no slouch; packing 350HP and being capable of quarter-mile times in the high-14 second range, it was relatively brisk during the era of bias-ply tires.

This example that you’re looking at here is located at Sweet Dreams in Fredricksburg,Texas, and according to the seller, has seen only 1,500 miles since its restoration. Whether or not that’s true is open for debate, since there is quite a bit of dirt and even rust on the Oldsmobile for having supposedly undergone a $25,000 restoration recently. But you never know, and it a stunning example regardless.

The 442 as a whole was always a cool car; even right up to the end in 1988 when it died as an emasculated, 307-powered shadow of its former self. We think that all examples of the Olds 442 will live on as a historic muscular reminder of GM’s mid-level luxury brand for years to come.
