Rat rods have a reputation of being the product of mismatched junk-yard parts and cheap builds. However, a rather expensively done rat rod appeared on eBay last week with bids being taken through April 14. The rat rod, built out of a ’41 Chevrolet pickup truck, was advertised as a Big Daddy Roth Rat Fink tribute truck with many new parts- all the way down to the custom built frame.
The truck sported a fully blown 350 engine with Weiland blower and Edelbrock 1404 performance series carburetors. The truck had plenty of polished aluminum parts, including a polished aluminum water pump, bug catcher and valve covers. Although the truck was advertised as a rat rod, it was obviously not something that was thrown together with just junk-yard parts.
To achieve the Rat Fink tribute look for the truck, the builder had custom paint work done by Eastwood Company in distressed black with green, red and yellow details. A custom built bed with a Rat Fink tribute image, flame-tipped bed rails, skull-topped fuel tank and a Rat Fink hood ornament round out the truck.
Although it seems like quite the ride, none of the 11 bids met the reserve, with the last being $15,100. No doubt, a lot of time and money went into this tribute truck, so it’s not surprising that the seller was expecting to get more than the high bid. Looks like the seller will have to try again to sell his award winning truck to a more generous bidder in the future.
