We don’t mind admitting that movie cars always catch our attention, and even though there’s a lot of about a DeLorean that catches the eye there’s no doubt that it’s starring role in the 1980’s Back to the Future movies made it into far bigger of a start than it ever would have been on it’s own merit. We found this red 1981 DeLorean DMC over on eBay, and what immediately grabs the eye is that, well, it’s red!
The most interesting thing about a DeLorean, aside from it’s gullwing doors, is that the body is made of stainless steel, and painting it a color is kind of like trying to paint a spoon. It really doesn’t need paint, and it’s really not an easy process anyway.
That being said, several dealerships did experiment with painting DeLorean’s to add a little splash of color to them, and that’s where this one apparently received it’s dye job.
According to the listing it has just a little over 26,000 miles on it and has apparently been sitting for at least five years. The interior has seen better days with torn upholstery and a cracked dash, and other plastic moldings appear to be burnt. The headliner is drooping as well and the driver’s side window prefers to be down more often than it’s up.
Other small items include an A/C system that needs freon, a gas gauge that is busted, some fairly poor touch up areas on the paint, and rotted out tires. Other than that, it should be good for 88 miles an hour!
