eBay Find of the Day: Is This Ratty ’64 Impala SS Worth Saving?

eBay recently listed this ratty ’64 Impala SS for sale from Mobile, Alabama. Is this car a piece of Chevrolet history, a piece of Swiss cheese, or a parts car? Whatever it is, a thorough, automotive “background check,” is in order.

Built in Atlanta, GA, this 125K mile ’64 Impala SS is noteworthy in that it was equipped with a 275 hp 327 V-8, 4-speed manual transmission, and no power steering or brakes.

Was this car ordered as a stripped down racer or just sparsely optioned? Could this be an original 409 car, hence the missing engine? That seems to be the buzz in the comments section as prospective buyers are requesting VIN information from the seller.

Regardless of its lineage, the car is rough. Along with the motor and trans, the car is missing it’s front seats and most of the trunk floor. The front clip has been replaced and all the doors and quarters are rotted. The metal work alone to get rid of the rust will be challenging to say the least.

Maybe the best route for this Impala is to get it running, spray it flat black and stencil skull and crossbones on the doors and drive it around town as is. A 60’s rat rod if you will.

Someone out there saw the potential in this Impala though, as it sold last week for $1300.00. Let’s hope this old SS gets a fresh start with its new owner.
