Oh, Doctor Oldsmobile would be proud. If you’re one of those who’d jump at the opportunity to pick up one of the most desirable 4-4-2’s (remember H/O’s weren’t 4-4-2’s!), we found the eBay lot for you. This sick numbers-matching ‘70 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 is everything that the Chevelle-whomping sibling was designed to be. Equipped with the Ram Air W-30 package, this Olds is much, much more than just a Cutlass.
Still running the Earth-moving, factory-equipped 455cui plant, this 4-4-2 came with the modest rating of 370hp but make exceptionally more torque than the kissing-cousin’s SS 454 made horsepower (and most diesels of the time) as well as a Hurst-shifted four-speed manual transmission. The Olds has only 88,920 original miles on it to boot!
Believe it or not, the interior is completely original with bucket seats, center console and AM/FM radio. Unique to the W-30, the original red inner fenders can also still be found on the car. The owner tried to salvage the original Burnished Gold hue when he bought it about a year ago but ended up conducting a complete rotisserie repaint because of the fading. The front and rear bumpers were rechromed when the car was repainted as well.
The 4-4-2 W-30 was part of an over 85-car collection owned by Lee Smith and his wife. As a licensed Virginia Dealer, Smith is selling a few cars out of his collection through his dealership, Today’s Auto. Included in the eBay listing are dozens of photos, showing just how immaculate this 4-4-2 is.
If you’re interested in bidding on this exquisite car, you have until June 12th to do so. Be prepared to bid a significant amount of cash because this car is sure to bring in a pretty penny, especially since a high bid of $43,600 on June 7th hadn’t met the reserve yet.
