eBay Find Of The Day: Unrestored 1969 GTO Hitting Six Figures

You can’t deny that the GTO, the “Goat”, was a formidable entry into muscle car history. Even though the sister makes had their versions of this A-Body in the first years, their small V8 didn’t match up to the Pontiac Tempest version with the 389 – which made it a GTO. It’s three letter name taken from the Ferrari 250 GTO, it didn’t seem to matter to muscle car enthusiasts that there was a red-headed Italian who bore the GTO name first, they just loved the Goat for all it was.

We’ve seen nice GTOs for sale from time to time, some with multiple blowers, and bearing a judicial namesake in colorful graphics, but here we have one on eBay that is a very low mileage unrestored classic. Showing a few clicks over 18,000 miles on the odometer, the 400 Pontiac mill hasn’t been very far on this Liberty Blue GTO. With a score of 98 out of 100 in a Councors show, it clearly took first place as the national winner. Add to that the 50+ other awards it’s won and you know it’s one of the finest out there.

It seems there are a few skeptics questioning this numbers matching car, which sits exactly as it was ordered, according to the seller. From the comments that were added, apparently it’s getting under the skin of the seller because too many people have asked about his wheels. He states that his wheels have been verified as period correct, so he asks that you “please, don’t worry yourself over it” if you’re not bidding.

It’s truly a beautiful car, but is it worth the asking price? We see one bid at $150,000, and the reserve hasn’t been met. The seller claims he’s had “several” offers in the six digit area, but apparently that hasn’t been enough. Let’s face it, the GTO was a deservedly arrogant muscle car amongst it’s peers, and the listing seems to be sharing in that arrogance. It doesn’t need to be sold, according to the seller, and that makes us wonder what the intention is since he has chosen eBay instead of Barrett Jackson. He states that he feels Barrett-Jackson won’t reach a large enough audience. Really?
