eBay Find: One You Don’t See Every Day – 1969 AMC SC/Rambler

Say what you will about the now defunct American Motors Corporation, better known as AMC, but back in the day they manufactured some real jewels amongst the silly looking, but endearing, cars that they were often known for (think: Matador, Ambassador, Pacer, to name a few). From the beginning, things looked promising when the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation and Hudson Motor Company merged, making it one of the largest corporate mergers in US history.

Many of the cars of that day were rather unique looking, even to this day, and the newly formed AMC continued on that tradition well into the musclecar era with cars like the AMX, Javelin, Gremlin and even the Matador. AMC was also known for taking some of these small, interesting cars and shoehorning a 390 cubic inch small-block into some of these cars, making for a musclecar that left many unsuspecting onlookers surprised. It actually brought a lot of appeal to otherwise bland cars.

While the AMX and Javelin were rather sporty, the Gremlin and Matador were rather odd. But one car that was neither sporty nor odd looking was the Rambler. It was a mild mid-size car that to this day has a great look that makes for a great little musclecar. Introduced as the Rambler American, the car simply became the Rambler for it’s final year of production and AMC decided to add a commemorative version of this classic: the SC/Rambler.

We found a beautiful, rotisserie restoration of the 1969 SC/Rambler on eBay, complete with the 315HP 390 V-8, T-10 4-speed and wearing the infamous Red, White & Blue paint scheme that made these cars stand out in any crowd. This matching-numbers Hurst Edition Scrambler, as it became known was advertised to do the quarter mile in 14.3 seconds, and only 1,512 were built. They were promoted specifically for the NHRA drag racing F/Stock class, a stretch for AMC.

AMC went through many changes, sold to Chrysler, who reportedly bought them for the Jeep/Eagle line, and AMC was no more after the 1987 buyout from Renault, and in 1988 AMC was no more.

So if you have a certain appeal to orphaned cars that no longer have a place to call home, you can rescue this SC/Rambler and be the talk of the cruise night, because these cars attract a crowd, and when one cruises through in this condition, it’s going to make a statement.

Wildly colored, wildly powered and wildly cool, who can resist the charm of such a cool musclecar like the Scrambler? A couple days are left, and the reserve hasn’t been met at $52,100 by over 35 bidders. But the buy it now price of $63,500 is still on the table if this car catches your fancy.
