The Mopar E-body has always been a popular car, and draws a big price when you find one for sale, regardless of condition. We’ve seen stripped E-bodies sell for more than a complete running vehicle from one of the other offerings from Mopar of the 1970s. The pony cars from Ford, Chevy, Pontiac, and Mopar will likely remain a favorite forever.
We’ve published a couple of articles about the famed HEMI ‘Cudas that sought big bucks, like the highly optioned original HEMI ‘Cuda that crossed the auction blocks at Mecum last winter, boasting just 12,000 miles. Then there was the first HEMI ‘Cuda that has been around the block a few times that we’ve seen, the last time seeking a cool $3 million with a portion of it going to Hurricane Sandy victims. The super-clean HEMI ‘Cuda owned by Zach Reynolds, heir to the R.J. Reynolds tobacco fortune was up for sale a couple of times, too.
While each of those cars commanded lottery-ticket-winner status for us regular folks, there are sometimes a few cars that become available for a fraction of those prices, and yet they’re still out of reach for most of us. Is it sad to say they cost one-tenth of the other cars, yet we can’t even come close to it?
Such is the case with this restomod HEMI ‘Cuda we found on eBay packing heat in the form of a 750-horse 572 cubic-inch HEMI backed by a pistol-gripped 4-speed. While it’s subtlety keeps it looking like a restored classic with custom wheels, the custom features make this a pretty cool ‘Cuda.
Although it was a SEMA show car in 2010, it might be a bit pricey for most of us with the starting price at $100,000, but it is nice to dream once in a while, right? At least, for those who are okay with the restomod approach to classic musclecars.
What’s your take on a beast like this? Do you feel the E-bodies need to stay original, or can you get behind the whole restomod scene and appreciate a good build on a highly sought after car like the ‘Cuda? We’d like to know what you think, so drop down below and share your thoughts.
