eBay has announced the release of their latest tools aimed at DIY mechanics in eBay Motors. The first, called Shop by Diagram, enables parts hunters to utilize interactive schematics to determine which parts they need, and then instantly makes the exact items available for purchase via a list. Also released in a newly designed My Garage feature, which allows shoppers to browse a customized “virtual garage” of parts and accessories specifically tailored for their vehicle.

eBay’s Shop by Diagram makes finding any auto part a breeze even in instances when a shopper doesn’t know the part’s number or description by making your automobile’s schematic diagrams interactive. For the first time, both amateur and professional mechanics can take advantage of visual diagrams to shop for the exact part they need, simply and easily. eBay proprietary “fitment technology” guarantees compatibility of parts with the make, model and year of the vehicle in question.

The updated and enhanced My Garage tool offers a custom shop for every auto enthusiast. By entering and saving the details of their car, truck or motorcycle, including make, model, trim level, engine type and year into My Garage, shoppers receive streamlined access to parts specific to their vehicle. 

eBay has designed these tools as part of an effort to help shoppers avoid purchasing the wrong parts for their vehicle. According to an eBay Motors’ study, close to half of consumers, 49 percent, have purchased a part either in a store or online that was incompatible with their vehicle. What’s more, 70 percent have begun a car repair before realizing that they didn’t have all the parts to do the job. To combat these issues, eBay has created Shop by Diagram and enhanced My Garage with algorithms that tap into its catalog of over 80 million parts and accessories, one of the largest parts inventory in the world 

“More than half of all U.S. adults have tackled some sort of auto repair by themselves, and not knowing exactly which part they need can be one of the biggest obstacles to online parts shopping,” sais Jay Hanson, COO and Vice President of eBay Americas. “The new features we’re rolling out today eliminate the guesswork by helping people find and buy the specific part they need — even if they don’t know exactly what it is.”
