If anyone loves and misses the days of Trans Am racing, it’s us. More specifically, we miss the real Trams Am racing from the original late ’60’s that ran into the early ’70’s because those cars were, well, real cars! Yes, we do know that the fastest ones were breathed on by the likes of Smokey Yunick and that the cars he built were not even close to what the factory created, but let us have a little nostalgia.
Recently the crew over at Edelbrock’s Blog (titled Edelblog) recapped an event that was put on by Bobby Rahal’s Legends of Motorsports at the Circuit Mont Tremblant in St. Jovite, Canada.
Normally at this time of year the lucky group of Vintage Trans Am car owners are racing in the Portland Historics, but headed to Canada after receiving the invite from Rahal’s group. What was extra special about the event was that a few of the cars had literally raced that very same track back in the heyday of Trams Am competition.
We can only image that the cars took to the turns like a faithful dog that has returned home after being lost for years.
The crew that owns these style of cars has a great website over at trans-amseries.com and it’s a fantastic way to kill a few hours. While perusing the pictures we found a great quote from Parnelli Jones that says it all:
“The Trans-Am was a no-holds-barred, highly competitive series. We had the best American drivers, we ran on the best North American circuits, and we drove cars that were spectacular to watch and that the fans could easily identify with. The Trans-Am was the greatest road racing series that has ever been run over here.”
We couldn’t have said it better!
