Fire Tragically Claims This Show-Winning ’69 Dodge Charger R/T

Many of us couldn’t imagine our lives without our prized vehicle, not knowing what it would be like without showing at car shows, cruising, racing or even just pulling her out on Sunday for a good wash and wax. Unfortunately, one couple had to find out what it is like to lose their prized car when an unfortunate event caused a fire to erupt in their storage shed, tragically destroying their ‘69 Charger R/T.

A recent post on the Dodge Charger Forum recounting the fire reminds us that though prized and part of our lives, our cars are just material things that can (most the time) be replaced.

Owned by Chip and Angie (who asked to keep their last name withheld), the brilliant Top Banana Yellow Charger was well-known among the Mopar community. This boisterous muscle car was built by Chip to be a full fledged race car and in-turn, became his pride and joy.

The car was shown and enjoyed as part of the High Impact Performance Mopar Auto Club of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa for many years.

Unfortunately, on April 29, 2011, a worn electrical line caught by high winds sparked a fire in Chip and Angie’s storage shed and spread to the new car trailer parked beside the building where the Charger was kept. The fire took its toll, engulfing both the building and trailer and their contents, including a boat, a 40s Ford tractor, farm equipment, and above all, the Charger.

As you can see from the pictures, the fire was devastating. The Charger was burnt down to flaky bare metal with no interior to speak of and the images only hint of how unfairly the engine was treated. Although some could argue that the Charger could have been saved, it was closer to death and meant to just be let go.

While the recount of the fire was just posted, it has been almost 9 months since tragedy struck. Since the fire, Chip and Angie have adopted another classic muscle car, a ‘74 Challenger Pro Street.

Our condolences go out to Chip and Angie for the loss of their prized ‘69 Charger and wish them luck in the future with their Challenger. We can’t imagine what it is like to lose a car in a fire like this one, but we are thankful that no one was hurt and that aside from a devastating set back, Chip and Angie’s Mopar enthusiasm continues.

The hope is that Chip and Angie can save their High Impact Yellow '69 and not have to start from scratch again.
