Foose and WD-40 Team Up to Build Two Trucks for Charity

Automotive design legend Chip Foose has once again teamed up with WD-40 to raise money for children’s charities. This year, Foose has designed not one but two vehicles which will debut at the 2012 SEMA show in Las Vegas. The vehicles chosen this year are a ’53 Ford F-100 and a 2012 F-350.

The original truck before it's Foose transformation

The ’53 F-100 will be a Foose designed tribute for WD-40’s sixtieth anniversary, inspired by the truck that made the first deliveries of the product. Developed by the Rocket Chemical Company, WD-40 was originally designed as a rust preventive for the Atlas Missile Program. Foose wanted to keep a working man’s truck theme for this build and the rendering of the truck shows some classic looks with Foose inspired touches. Those touches included a lowered stance and one-off custom  Foose designed wheels.

Here's the Foose rendering concept for the build. The finished truck will pay homage to WD-40 and the truck that delivered the first case of products sixty years ago.

We were able to get a look at some of the build photos as well as a few details on changes to the truck. We can tell you that overall the original truck appeared to be a very good survivor if not an older restoration. The truck has been at least partially disassembled and we know that it’s been rewired and likely the electrical system updated to 12-volt. The original Flathead engine has been rebuilt by L&R and outfitted with Edelbrock heads as well as other speed parts from Egge. It would appear from the build photos that the engine block has also been sprayed in a matching WD-40 yellow. Fenton headers and custom exhaust from MagnaFlow will provide the soundtrack.

The suspension will be lowered stock in the rear with a drop front axle. Front brakes have been upgraded to disc stopping power and the custom Foose wheels are designed to have a vintage look and integrate the WD-40 shield into their opening slots. Interior will remain period themed possibly done with some tuck and roll upholstery and a vintage looking steering wheel.

WD-40 will once again also be selling a line of special edition Foose cans which feature a Foose car on the can.

Outside, the patina paint will show the Rocket Chemical Company logo on the doors. LMC truck is also providing several restoration and replacement parts for the build as well.

After SEMA this truck will hit the road and be on display at several other events in California. In January the truck will head to auction where it will cross the block at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, AZ event. Proceeds from the sale will benefit two SEMA Cares charities, Childhelp provides services to abused children, and Victory Junction, which provides camp experiences to special needs and chronically or terminally ill children.

This partnership last year raised $115,000 for those charities and to date with three vehicle projects has raised a total of $400,000.  Some lucky bidder will get the keys to this truck in January and some less fortunate children will get help and service they need and deserve.
