Rolling up on an old barn and uncovering an incredible classic car is merely something that, if you’re like me, you experience in your dreams or in video games. I couldn’t imagine the real thing…
The “real thing” is similar to the case experienced by the the man behind this eBay listing we came across earlier today.
While at an auction in Maine last month, in which he purchased a 1970 Super Bird. Immediately after winning the car, a man sat down next to him, and explained how he has had two Super Birds in his garage for 40 years. He continued, explaining that he had purchased them from the original owners – and offered them for sale.
The owner explained, “My heart was still racing after just winning the auction at Owls Head and now it looked like I had the rare opportunity to purchase two more Super Birds that have been hidden from the public eye for over 35 years. He [said] he could show them to me in five days. So I made an appointment to meet with him in five days to view both birds.”
The owner, a lifelong Mopar enthusiast and mechanic, had remembered seeing the exact cars when they were brand new, sitting on the dealer’s lot. One was B5 Blue, with white buckets, and one was Alpine White with black buckets and a console auto slap stick.
“I was so incredibly excited, and still could not believe that these cars were hidden, entombed, for over 35 years. When I pulled into his yard he opened both garage doors and there staring me in the face were the two birds with their eyes looking straight at me, headlights open. There was so much clutter surrounding both cars we had to move everything out just to look at them. They were covered with decades of barn dirt and dust with rubble all around them as seen in the photos.”
That same day, he purchased both, called a tow truck, and got them to his vacation home – only 35 miles away. After many, many days of cleaning and detailing, they now are both for sale.
The blue Super Bird has only 27k original miles, and the white one has only 42k. The current owner said both will be running with no issue pending only minor maintenance – brakes, motor service, fluid changes, filters, etc. – as expected with with any vehicle in storage for a long period of time. The current owner has not tried to get them running, but claims both are turning freely. They will be sold in non-running condition.
