“Good new…Good news!” Much like Roscoe P. Coltrane attempted from the late 1970s through the mid-1980s, you too can get your hands on one of the most iconic characters from modern television history. That’s right, the General Lee, fourth member of the Duke Family, is heading to the auction block for charity.
The Jalen Rose Leadership Academy is opening a preparatory school in Detroit, which is slated to open in September of this year. The inaugural class will consist of 120 ninth graders, and the facility will provide education to students from freshman year through graduation. Former NBA player and University of Michigan “Fab Five” member, Jalen Rose, is looking to offer up an assist in the name of his charity by placing his personal ’69 Dodge Charger General Lee on eBay with all of the proceeds of the sale being donated to the school.
There are innumerable replicas of the “General” out there, but Rose’s Charger is one of the few legitimate survivors of the television series. It has, however, been customized to reflect his own personal taste. The Confederate flag has been deleted from the roof and, in place of the “01” on the doors, is an “05” which pays homage to the number he wore on his jersey. Along with Jalen Rose’s autograph emblazoned on the underside of the orange Dodge’s hood, is the signature of, none other than, John Schneider who played Bo Duke.
The bidding commences Monday, May 23, with an opening bid of $45,000. When the proverbial hammer falls, all of the money bid during this no-reserve sale will benefit a truly wonderful cause. Please check eBay Motors to learn more about the car and the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy.
