Get Your Own Banshee For Three-Quarters Of A Million

banshee05While the General was building concept cars back in the 1950s and ’60s, there were a couple of cars that resembled Chevrolet’s marque: the Corvette. As interesting as that may sound, there are some subtle clues about these cars that made it to production – but not on the concept car that was built.

banshee08We shared with you a couple of these concept cars, and one was the 1954 Buick Wildcat. The Wildcat concept shared the lo0k of the first gen Corvette from the windshield-back, but the front end looked more like the 1953 Skylark or Roadmaster.  The Wildcat eventually made it to production, but not as a Corvette sibling, it became a full size sedan, and was rare enough that some people are unaware of it’s existence.

Another concept car that we share with you was the 1964 Pontiac Banshee, code named XP-833. The interesting thing about the Banshee, however, is the very strong resemblance to other cars – particularly cars that weren’t in production yet.

As you can see by the pics here, the Banshee highly resembles the 1968 Corvette body lines. A closer look at the headlamp doors and you might find similarities to the Opel GT’s headlamp doors. At the tail end of the Banshee, there were strong clues of the tail lamps found on the 1974 Firebird (two thin rows instead of three, as on the F-body).

banshee06If you’re wondering who was behind the Banshee, it was none other than John Z., father of the DeLorean. Of course, the Banshee never made it to production but was on the cutting edge of things to come for General Motors.

If you find the Banshee particularly interesting, and you’ve got three-quarters of a million bucks at your disposal, then this rare gem is available for a very short time left on eBay. However, without the favorite bidding war that sometimes helps sell a vehicle, the “Buy it Now” asking price of $750,000 means that there will be only one bidder.

Perhaps if it doesn’t sell, the car can be listed again and the bidding war set into place. But we think anyone who wants this car and can afford it couldn’t care less about bidding wars, as this car is more of a conversation piece than a bragging right type of car, like the HEMI ‘Cudas.
