Going for a Spin in a 502 Big Block Camaro SS

1967 Camaro SS 502 sideDuring a recent RamblinAround test drive, the Rambler had the privilege of getting behind the wheel of a 1967 Chevy Camaro SS 502. Originally, this Camaro was a rare 396 Camaro SS, but the 396 was removed in favor of the powerful 502. The Camaro is owned by Fastlane Classic Cars in St. Charles, Missouri.

The car was built in a restomod style, meaning it retains it’s stock look on the outside but has been hot rodded on the inside. The exterior is painted sleek black, with white stripes across the grill. The exterior retains it’s original SS badges including the 396 turbo jet badges on the front fenders.

If you looked through the window, the interior may appear stock but in reality it has several modifications. These mods are hard to notice as they are subtle, they include hoodstooth seats,  tilt steering, a racing steering wheel, a modern radio that looks vintage, a center console with cup holders and a Hurst on the floor.

90% of the population wouldn't be able to tell this interior is aftermarket.

Underneath the hood sits the rumbling Big Block Chevy 502, not only does this engine sound vicious but it makes plenty of power too. It produces 502 horsepower and 567 lb-ft of torque thanks to it’s aluminum intake, aluminum heads and an aggressive cam. The driver will rip through 4 gears as the 502 is attached to a Super T-10 four speed manual. The Super T-10 connects to a 12 bolt with 3.55 posi rear gears which will let a driver really get lost.

Another subtle feature is the 15-inch Eagle aluminum racing wheels that the car sits on. These wheels resemble mag wheels which were popular among hot rodders in the 1960’s. She may look like a stock restoration, but she’s a force to be reckoned with at any stop light.
