If you’re here, we’re sure you’ve heard of Goodguys. They throw some of the most awesome classic events in the country–and they’re always something we look forward to – this one’s a little special, though.
This year marks the 22nd anniversary of their famed PPG Nationals event, and it’s quickly approaching. The Friday before, and the weekend of July 13th and 14th, Columbus, Ohio will be packed with the expected 6,500 hot rods, classics, muscle cars, trucks, and customs. There’s no doubt, if you’re into it, it’ll be there.
Aside from the plethora of show cars, the event is packed with the usual vendor exhibits, along with tons of other really cool stuff, such as: the American-made or -powered “All American Sunday, Summer Shootout” Autocross sessions, a burnout competition, constant live music, and (our favorite) the “Summer of ’69” display.
The “Summer of ’69” is showcasing one of the best things about that year: The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro.
Here we are, fifty years after its debut, and among all the Camaros now in existence, the ’69 model year remains the favorite of tons of enthusiasts. Over the past couple of months, Goodguys has been hard at work in search of the most notable, rare, and beautiful examples to feature in their special indoor display at the upcoming show.
“Nothing quite like this has been done before,” said Ed Capen, Goodguys VP of Sales and Sponsorship. They’ve reached out to General Motors for help and have enlisted the help of what seems to be the entire automotive community. There’s a huge buzz among the classic car community, with multiple awesome builds rumored to be making appearances.
Some that we know of already include Mark Stielow’ s latest pro-touring creation, Big Red, the Goodguys G/RS, as well as two Goodguys Street Machine of the Year winners—the Detroit Speed-built “Tux”, and Roadster Shop crafted, “Inferno.”
Goodguys shows are always highlights of our year, but we’re especially excited for this one–if you’re a ’69 Camaro fan like us, you should be, too. For more information on the Goodguys PPG Nationals event in Columbus, Ohio July 12-14, visit their website HERE.
