GR Auto’s ’51 Chevy Pickup Is A Truck Rodder’s Dream Come True

GR Auto Gallery of Grand Rapids, Michigan is confident that their currently listed ’51 Chevy 3-Window Step Side custom pickup is a great buy for any classic truck enthusiast who is on the prowl for a cool cruiser, “You cannot find another truck like this on the road, period.”

And it’s true that GR’s street-rodded pickup is at least somewhat of a rarity in the world of custom rodding, as it’s not your typical late ’40s Merc or Deuce Coupe. In fact, how often do you see an early ’50s era pickup done with this caliper of care and craftsmanship?

The answer is simply that there are just not that many, and our featured 3-Window is built with driveability in mind while maintaining an ultra-clean, street rod look and feel. That’s because the truck’s drivetrain, including steering column, wiring, gas tank and big-block motor are pulled out of a ’91 Chevy truck, the donor truck’s 454 now punched 0.030 over with a mild performance cam to make between 325-350 horses.

As it stands, the truck has only clocked 137 miles since its construction and the late-model 454 has been refreshed with a new set of pistons, rings, a 3-angle valve job, new timing chain and gears, factory throttle-body injection, a newly-turned crank and a custom ram-air induction system, all of which chases a 700R4 transmission from an ’84 Z28 built with Vette servos and a 2,000-rpm stall converter.

Our featured Step Side’s platform is equally choice, as the ’51 pickup is supported by a custom tube chassis with Volare front suspension and a custom back-halved rear with coilovers. Also at the truck’s rear is a narrowed Ford 9-inch assembly with 31-spline axles and 3.73 cogs from D & R Driveline of Jenison, Michigan.

The Grand Rapids truck also features several body mods, including a recessed firewall, shaved door handles, a custom-filled gas tank opening and a diamond-plated bed that adds to the truck a show quality like no other. Will GR’s ’51 Chevy become the latest addition to your custom rod collection?!
