It never gets old, does it? You’re browsing through your favorite automotive forums and those eight letters pop off the page and reel you in: “Barn Find”. Regardless of the vehicle’s condition, it’s always an interesting read and we all want to know if there’s a little history behind it.
This 1970 Challenger T/A found on Moparts.org is one such barn find that gives us a little bit of history. The current owner is the second owner, and the car is 1 of 37 T/As on record with the FF4 Light Green Metallic exterior color, according to the Challenger T/A Registry. This T/A is showing about 53K miles on the odometer, very low miles for a 40+ year-old car.
1970 was the only year for the Challenger T/A, and the 340 six-pack was the only engine choice. This Trans Am racing homologation car was built by Dodge in order to compete in SCCA’s road racing series. The sister car from Plymouth was the AAR ‘Cuda, also built for the same purpose.
The current owner said the car has been stored since 1985, and other than a piece of trim missing from the tail light area, everything else seems to be there. He has plans to give the car to his grandson, and hopefully the grandson will take a huge interest in this 340 T/A, as you don’t see too many around. There’s even the possibility that the broadcast sheets might still be in the car.
Finding broadcast sheets in a car like this is almost as exciting as the barn find was in the first place, as they will add even more value to the car. Another great find!
