Holley recently announced that HAYS, a brand under its umbrella released four brand new SFI Flywheels for Gen-III Hemi & Ford Modular applications. Expanding its already extensive lineup of flywheels are four more SFI certified parts to add. These new flywheels are intended for use in late model applications including 09-17 Dodge Challenger’s w/ 5.7L, 6.1L or 6.4L Hemi’s; 12-13 Mustang’s with 8-bolt crankshaft 5.0L’s and more.
Made from aluminum, these flywheels are super lightweight. The reduction in weight provides reduced clutch wear and stress on your engine. It also provides faster, smoother gear shifting, and easier break-in capabilities. Being lighter weight also means a reduced rotating mass. This reduced rotating mass could offer greater fuel economy for your vehicle.
All of Hays’ aluminum, lightweight flywheels are engineered to withstand the abuse and punishment of the high horsepower engines of today’s race, street, and off-road world.
Quick quote from the official press release:
NOTE: When choosing a flywheel take note that a heavy flywheel stores more energy as it spins than a light flywheel. If you have a heavy car combination that requires more power (or inertia) to make it launch without bogging the engine, you will want a heavier flywheel. Remember that a heavier flywheel will be slower to accelerate through the gears where a lighter flywheel creates less inertia at launch but will accelerate faster through the gears.
