We love late fifties Mopars. These winged, gilded chariots were shy on build quality and susceptible to rust, but lordy bagordy, what a golden era of automotive styling. This really nice 1959 DeSoto two-door coupe turned up on Hemmings and what a knockout!

Most folks might think the color combo is ho-hum, but it’s our favorite part. We’ve all seen red, black and white examples at car shows over the years, but this Spring Rose hue with a metallic roof and accents is a technicolor dream.

Many folks think the 1957-’58 models are the pinnacle of “Forward Look” styling, but we’re partial to 1959 models not only from DeSoto but from Plymouth and Chrysler as well.

According to the seller, “Only 2,250 Firedome Sportsman two-door hardtops were produced in 1959 and this is an exceptionally nice example with 43,000 miles. Accenting its unique color is a multi-tone brown and white interior. Powered by a 383 cubic inch V8 engine with dual exhaust and equipped with a pushbutton automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, Swivel bucket seats, and radio.” The Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels and wide whitewall tires are a nice, finishing dollop of whipped cream on this automotive confection.

We would leave this car as is and simply drive and enjoy it as is. Remember, we are only shepherds of these old autos while we are here on earth, and as car enthusiasts, it’s our duty to preserve these old sleds for generations to come.
