How many cars is enough? Most people are happy if they have a few top-shelf automobiles, but Don Baskin is sitting on a 1,000 car collection in Memphis, and it is has some of the most desirable muscle cars and street machines ever made.

Don Baskin standing in front of a few of his 80 — yes, we said 80 — first-gen Camaros. Yes, he has a ’69 ZL-1 among them.
Think about it: A 1,000 car collection. It is almost overwhelming to consider. Everything from his personal drag cars to a genuine ’69 Camaro Pace Car, the pair of 1970 Chevelle SS that he drove in high school, and late-model muscle like a Jeep Trackhawk are all here.
Baskin, a multi-time champion in National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) competition and owner of Baskin Truck Sales, stores the vehicles in three warehouses that encompass some 440,000 square feet. It’d one of the most varied car collections we’ve seen: Trucks, muscle cars, ’50s cars, Coyote-powered Mustangs — you name it. It spans eras and body styles, and there are sports cars (Don owns some 20 Corvettes, a Viper, and a Ferrari). He bought the Ferrari almost on a dare because someone pointed out to him that he didn’t have one.
He drives about 40 of the vehicles a year. They are packed in the warehouses like sardines, so getting them in and out is challenging.
Baskin says he’s been drag racing since he was 16, so there are numerous straight-line machines, and they are in his dedicated race car shop. One of his most cherished is a silver 440-powered ’69 Plymouth GTX that was owned by his friend before he passed away.
Another special car is the 1967 Impala SS427 convertible his father bought new, replete with the 425-horsepower engine and M22 “Rock Crusher” gearbox. Baskin says it is one of only two ordered that way.
But there is also a slew of fourth-gen Firebirds with virtually no miles on them. The third-ever built ’67 Camaro, which has a six-banger and a three-speed-on-the-column gearbox, is in the collection. We loved the pair of unrestored ’69 GTO Judges, too, one of which is a rare convertible model. Don seems to have an obsession with GM products, but one of his favorite cars to drive at the moment is a twin-turbo, Coyote-swapped four-eyed Fox Mustang.

What would you do if you have a 1,000 car collection? Personally, we’d find bigger buildings for them so we could get them out to drive easier! Check out the video link above and let us know which are your favorites.
