Mopar fans have been begging, but it looks like it may be awhile before a Subaru BRZ rival is in the works. Currently, the Viper is SRT’s only car and rumor has it that Chrysler is planning on adding a second model to the line up. Auto Guide has sat down and talked with SRT CEO Ralph Gilles, who confirmed no BRZ rival is the works.
Gilles, however, didn’t confirm or deny a second car from SRT. He acknowledged the feedback and suggestions SRT has been receiving through Social Media. “When are you going to have your own BRZ?” is a paraphrased question that gets asked a lot by fans of SRT. “I’m happy to see that a lot of our fans want that,” Gilles said.
Today SRT is known for the Viper and Hemi V8 performance versions of the Challenger, Charger and the 300. It may seem odd to fit a BRZ rival into this line up however, in the 2000s SRT was a very different brand. It was a brand based around sport compact cars.
Their flagship car was the SRT4; a performance variant of the Dodge Neon and the Dodge Caliber. While SRT has not been in the sport compact market since 2009, they were working on a compact concept.
In 2007 Chrysler unveiled a new Dodge Demon concept at the Geneva Motor Show. Unlike it’s 70’s musclecar ancestor, this Demon was powered by a 170 HP 2.4L inline 4 engine. Chrysler has never officially canceled this car, perhaps this will be the car to take on the BRZ. Would you like to see SRT produce the Demon at the top of this page?
