Lately we’ve been bringing you a lot of neat Pro Touring cars that have been up for sale on eBay and other sites around the interwebs. All of these cars are the result of one person’s concept of what they believe the perfect Pro Touring car to be. Mashing together an old body with a new driveline can be a great combination.
For this particular owner, the decision was made to meld a 1956 Mercury and a 1995 Ford Thunderbird (!) which was not anyone’s definition of a Pro Touring car, ever – but it is for this owner, and who are we to judge?
It’s an interesting mixture – something about the ’95 T-Bird’s greenhouse side profile doesn’t really fit with the lines of the ’56 front and rear fenders. After spending a couple of minutes looking at the photos, we’re still not sure whether we like it or not, but it’s definitely a unique treatment of a Pro Touring machine.
The car is still powered by the 4.6L Modular engine and four-speed overdrive transmission that the Thunderbird had in it from the factory, meaning that you’ll get smiles for miles while traversing the countryside – you just won’t get them quickly. The ’95 T-bird was an underpowered, overweight boat of a car that didn’t do an enthusiast justice the first time around.
But the likely buyer for this car won’t care about any of that – it’s unique and different and will definitely attract lots of questions at the likely car shows the car is meant to inhabit for the rest of its life. Is it worth $23,500? Check back at the end of the auction and find out – or make an offer today.
