Just A Good Old Boy: The General Lee Returns With Some Extra Boost

One day, Jeff Baker came across his vision and childhood memories of his favorite Mopar came rushing back. There in front of him was a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T with Hemi Orange Paint, the Confederate flag painted on the roof, the black grille guard on the front, and the iconic 01 gleaming on the doors. These were just a few of the visuals that are forever imprinted in the minds of the many fans of the original General Lee.

The search was over, and Baker planned on bringing home a little of the South into Northern territory. With some negotiation, Baker was headed home with The General in tow to his home town in Massachusetts. He was turning his dream into a reality.

Memories of the General and the Duke Boys barreling down dirt roads, taking flight over bridges – always with the heat in pursuit – Baker wanted to take his new ride to the next level. Baker asked himself what the poor boys, Bo and Luke Duke, would have done do to the General Lee if they had more money in their pockets.

The process went from just a few additions to a full rebuild, as problem after problem revealed itself. So the ’69 Charger was dismantled and then slowly brought back to life. A rebuilt 472 cubic inch Hemi was dropped in along with a Torqueflite 727 transmission, a new Flowmaster exhaust system, complete interior restoration, and finishing it off with the well known Hemi Orange paint. These were just a few details of the extensive rebuild.

Street Legal TV and RateMyRidez have teamed up and the General Lee was chosen as the first feature writeup winner for Street Legal TV. The General Lee is the first of a weekly featured ride to be showcased as a winner in RMR’s Mopar Madness contest. To enter your Mopar stop by RMR and set up a profile for your car, and load a few photos for a chance to win a write up on your ride right here on SLTV.

About the author

Bridgett Davis

Growing up in Greenwood, Indiana a short distance from the world famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway, my dad would take me to local car shows and events. Through this I gained my passion. Along with cars, I have always loved photography, writing, and graphic arts. However when attending college I did not pursue my passions. I played it safe and majored in business and marketing. After a few years in this field I determined this was not for me and began to pursue a writing and photography career. Landing me here with Power Automedia. I am also now the business owner of Bridgett's Toxic Creations. Specializing in automobile showboards, custom license plates, logos, and website headers. Living and breathing the Mustang life everyday in everyway. To be able to work in my field of passion is amazing and fun experience everyday. The best part is sharing a common passion with others.
