The 1969 Lincoln Continental is a classy broad with its long, sleek body and full-sized suicide doors. 1969 was the last year that Lincoln offered suicide doors, or “Continental Doors”, and it was much longer than its predecessors – a whole foot longer than the 1961 model which it was based on. After World War II, the idea that bigger was better rocked the car world, and Lincoln and Cadillac were going head to head.
Not many of these Continentals are seen out and about on the streets (not in my neighborhood, anyway), and it is likely that a few have landed in the hands of car collectors who have these tucked away in its original state. Of course, not all of them have been kept original such as this beaut of a 1969 Lincoln Continental seen here in this YouTube video.
This bad, blacked-out Lincoln Continental was filmed by Jamboolio at the Helsinki Cruising Night last year in Finland. With its matte black paint and stealthy stance, it would have made a perfect fit for any old-school American gangster. It looks to have been filmed at two different times because the beginning shows smoked out lights and deep dish wheels, while the other part of the video shows amber corners and chrome spoke wheels. Powering this “land yacht” is a large 7.5-liter 460 cubic-inch V-8 engine, enlarged from a Ford 429, and the rumble in the exhaust is music to the ears.
From the looks of it, it looks like a lot of American cars were in attendance at Helsinki Cruise Night. Far from its birthplace in Michigan, we love the look of this now-relocated slab-sided ’69 Lincoln Continental caught cruising these cobblestone streets of Finland.
