It’s been a few months now since the 2014 Temecula Rod Run, but according to The Press Enterprise, the time that has passed since the event may not have been enough to squash complaints from one of the Rod Run’s major sponsors. Negotiations are still being done to try to salvage the sponsorship, but only time will tell if next year’s event will be lacking a major participant.
In a report issued June 30th, The Press Enterprise made it known that one of the major sponsors for the annual Temecula Rod Run in Temecula, California is threatening to pull their support for the event next year. Though the sponsor has not been named, it is very clear that it could very well be one of the biggest sponsors the event has had in past years.
According to the sponsor, the organization was unhappy with the way the finances for the 2014 event were handled.
This year was the first year that the city of Temecula was in charge of running the event and according to rules put forth by the city, any profits from the event were supposed to be divvied up between local nonprofits.
Though the event brought in about $16,000 this year, the sponsor says that he had no say in where his portion of the money was going due to this new rule. Apparently the sponsor thought the money would go to a nonprofit of his choosing or to the Rod Run itself. In the past, a list of nonprofits and charities received money from the Rod Run.
With plans for the 2015 Rod Run already starting, there is talk about the profits being used in a completely new way next year. Instead of going to the Community Services Fund, which was where the money went this year to be given out to area nonprofits, the money could go toward the city of Temecula’s fixed cost, so that future community events could be more self-sustaining.
The money and sponsorship issue are expected to be address in a future meeting.
