For those who follow dirt track racing, Erin Crocker Evernham is a familiar name. For those who are unfamiliar with her racing pedigree, Crocker Evernham is one of only two women to win a World of Outlaws sprint car race. According to Yahoo, Crocker Evernham has taken part in the NASCAR Busch Series, ARCA, and dirt track series. With a well rounded racing background Crocker Evernham is well qualified to take part in the Race of Gentlemen in Wildwood, NJ.
She will be driving her husband, Ray Evernham’s ’23 Ford T Roadster during competition. Although, the name of the event is deceiving, Crocker Evernham is just one of many female entrants in this year’s event.
Another notable celebrity driver is Jessi Combs of All Girls Garage. Combs will take to sand behind the wheel of the Craftsman Tool and Oilers CC-built Twin-T racer. This sand destroying beast is roughly based on a 1913 Ford Model T, but with some serious upgrades. The Twin-T racer features twin four-cylinder engines. Yes, this machine has two engines to propel its way across the beach.
This event is similar to the original days of Daytona, participants take their now vintage racecars and motorcycles down the sandy track in a battle of skill and will. The three day event began with a display of the vintage racecars and motorcycles on Friday, October 2, 2015. Racing began on Saturday and continued on Sunday, with both ladies and gentlemen behind the wheel of their sand prepped race machines. Along with racing action, fans were treated to numerous bands and a vintage car show.
