Michigan car enthusiasts and out-of-state road trippers always mark their August calendars for one massive summer gathering. Taking over the Columbia Center, the 18th Annual Troy Traffic Jam returns this year to celebrate America turning 250. Organizers expect more than 7,000 attendees to view an incredible mix of military machines and high-performance racing icons.
The show opens on Sunday, August 2, with the National Anthem and a loud B-25 bomber flyover out of Willow Run Airport. Walking past the entrance, visitors will spot more than 300 vintage automobiles, classic muscle cars, and historic military trucks. Event Co-Chair Jen Peters explained: “America’s automotive industry helped shape the nation for more than a century, and this year’s Troy Traffic Jam celebrates that legacy in a way that car enthusiasts, history buffs and families can all enjoy.”
Attendees also get to hear directly from industry legends. Automotive journalist John McElroy will moderate specialized tech panels. Fans attending the 18th Annual Troy Traffic Jam can listen to David Hobbs and Roger Bailey trade stories from Le Mans and IndyCar. Later, the stage hosts a Dale Earnhardt Sr. tribute alongside the famous No. 3 Corvette C5-R race car. Speaking about the attractions, Peters added: “Whether you’re interested in classic cars, racing history, automotive technology or simply spending a great day with family, there is something here for everyone.”
Performance fans will catch Corvette Chief Engineer Josh Holder discussing modern sports car development with General Motors (GM) designers. Mopar enthusiasts get a treat too, as Paul Rossi displays a ’24 Mopar Performance Super Stock Challenger next to an original ’70 model. While the show charges no entry fee, collected $5 parking donations directly support educational programs at the Troy Historic Village.
