Every year just before the annual SEMA trade show in Las Vegas, the Mopar camp teases us with some renderings of cars that they plan to have on display. We’ve seen a V10 Charger show up, and some other pretty cool renderings that made it to full scale. While SEMA is the grounds for bringing new and interesting things, we also know that not everything that displays at a manufacturer’s booth is going to make it to production, and all we can do is hope to see it one day – even if we can’t afford it.
The V10 Charger in 2012 was a big hit; they called it “Juiced” and it was finished in metallic Copperhead and had a matte finish on the hood and trunk. Did it make it to production with its 650 horsepower? Of course not, but we did get the Hellcat Charger last year with 707 horsepower, so Juiced seems to have all but faded away.
Two vehicles being teased this year are a pretty badass looking Chrysler 300, and a Dodge Challenger GT. Since Chrysler did away with SRT – and the Hemi – what could they possibly provide the die hard Chrysler 300 fans now that they’re stuck with a V6 engine? We can only hope to see another Hemi SRT8 300C, keep those fingers crossed that the powers that be will cave.
However interesting that 300 rendering might be, we were particularly interested in the Dodge Challenger GT and the small emblem on the trunk that says “AWD”. We already know that the Challenger hasn’t been the best handling car to come from the Dodge camp, but to add AWD to it might make it a bit meaner and more capable on the track.
The already cramped engine bay, and the fact that the Chrysler 300 is already available with an AWD V6, it only leads us to believe that the Challenger GT AWD could be powered by the V6, and perhaps not the Hemi we’d love to see under the hood. But then, it is SEMA, and what happens at SEMA doesn’t necessarily have to stay in Vegas.
