Chevrolet dropped a cryptic post on social media. There will be a big Corvette reveal on June 17. The million dollar question is what will it be? A Hypercar? An SUV? A sedan? None of the above?

Will Chevrolet’s big Corvette announcement be about a new performance model, a new SUV/crossover, or something else entirely?

It seems to early to be talking about the mythical Zora model for this Corvette reveal, which is thought to be the just-released ZR1 with electric motors up front providing both extra horsepower (from 1,064 to over 1,200) and all-wheel-drive. Rumors about the Zora have been around longer than the actual mid-engine Corvette, first appearing in Car and Driver in 2018 or so. The latest is the Zora will now be called the ZR1e, and while that sounds odd, it is also quite possible.

Could it be the long-rumored Corvette SUV/crossover? With Porsche and Lamborghini making a mint with their SUVs (and Ferrari about to join the fray), it has been said Corvette will add such a model to its lineup — perhaps even becoming a line of different vehicles. While C8 Corvette sales have been robust — 2023 was the second best model year in the nameplate’s 72-year history), there is no denying this is where the overall sports vehicle market is headed. Vehicles like the Porsche Cayenne and Macan and Lamborghini Urus add billions of dollars to their manufacturers’ respective bottom lines, so it is very likely Chevrolet could follow this road map.

Keep in mind also, the average Corvette owner is getting to an age where climbing into their two-seat sports car is becoming harder and harder. When I went to a 2020 Corvette reveal, there was a Corvette club there. More than one owner was seen putting a walker in the back of their C6 and C7 Corvette.
