It was a long night on Friday, thanks to several interruptions in the race action, but we got Round 1 in the books and today is already rockin’ with cars going down the track for qualifying round two. For full first round standings, jump to the Friday Coverage page, and keep your browser pointed right here all weekend long for more updates, photos, and videos.
Speaking of videos, here’s a recap of last night’s qualifying action, including Andy Schmidt’s wheelstand and crash landing (11:53 in the video):
Qualifying Round 1 – Pro Street, Super Street 10.5, Nostalgia Pro Street, 275 Drag Radial, Xtreme Street, and Pro Stock

Chris Rini needs everything to fall in line to take the Pro Street title away from Joe Dunne, and the first pieces of that puzzle fell into place last night. Rini, in the far lane, ran a near-perfect 6.057 pass at 234.78 MPH, while Joe Dunne (in the near lane) had trouble right off the hit and limped to a 13-second finish.

Round Three Notes:

Chris Rini flirted with a five last night, running 6.057 in round one of Pro Street qualifying. Today, he did the deed in round three, nailing a 5.988 pass at 236.46 MPH and cementing the top qualifying position.

Rini wasn't the only guy with a five in his bag of tricks, though - Bill Lutz nailed a 5.994 at 241.71 MPH just a few pairs afterwards. Conclusive proof that Pro Street is a 5-second class, right there...

No, Super Street racer Mike Murillo doesn't have his steering wheel turned - the right side tie rod broke during his burnout, letting the front wheel shake back and forth like a wet dog. It's no exaggeration to say that if it had let go just a few moments later during a 200 MPH pass, it would have been ugly. Way to cheat the Reaper, Mike! We're looking forward to seeing you in eliminations tomorrow.
