If you know the story of Don Yenko, you probably understand that he was not he kind of guy to take “No” for an answer. He also grew a customer base near his Pennsylvania Chevrolet dealership that didn’t take well to losing. Such was the case when the owner of this ’75 Pontiac Trans Am paid Yenko a visit. His primary competition was the son of the Pontiac dealer where he had bought the car, and he needed to win against a 1974 T/A SD.
For Don Yenko, the solution was well established and proven, so it took little convincing to let them replace the Pontiac’s original motor with an L88 427cui big block engine. New motor mounts, assorted brackets and other goodies were fabricated for the conversion and a set of 4.10 rear gears were added to the list.
The resulting Yenko super car is the only one of its kind known to exist. Consistent with Yenko practice, the car is fully documented as to modifications completed. With just 13,000 miles on the odometer, the past history of the car is also well documented. The car is also registered with the Pontiac Historical Society.
This unusual and unique Yenko Pontiac will go to auction this coming weekend at Dana Mecum’s Original Spring Classic Auction in Indianapolis, IN. The event, billed as ‘The World’s Largest Collector Car Auction’ takes place on May 17 through 22, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
As many as 2,000 cars, trucks and other vehicles are expected to cross the auction block over the six-day event. For additional information, check out the Mecum web site.
