Back in May of 2012, we brought you a first look at this very controversial 1970 Chevelle that we found at SEMA. When we first brought you the original article, we also filled you in on the car’s secret. Unless you open the hood, you might not even realize that the Chevelle was powered by a diesel engine. To say that the the responses were varied, is an understatement.

It’s hard to argue with how good the car looks. The interior features a mix of modern amenities; check out the console, the air conditioning controls, and the touch-screen stereo unit with navigation. Out back, the huge meats are meant to keep traction, but have proven futile in their attempt—this thing is a monster, with 950 horsepower, and 1,700 lb/ft. of torque. The reason for that torque is evident as you look under the hood.

When you first open the hood, you don’t find another chromed out, small block 350. The 6.6 liter Duramax Diesel, might look out of place, but the concept is ingenious; it delivers power, fuel mileage, and comfort when driving. You can drive it anywhere, and get 34 mpg, run it at the track, and keep the air conditioning on.

Whether you like the overall concept or not, it is impossible to argue with the quality of the craftsmanship that went into building the car. Finally, did we forget to mention that you can own it!
