Our friends at Sports Car Market just put out word that the Petersen Automotive Museum recently received a gift of approximately $100,000,000! The gift comes from the Margie & Robert E. Petersen Foundation. The purpose of the donation is to ensure that the museum that bears the Petersen name continues to grow and remains one of the largest automotive museums in the country.

When commenting on the gift Margie Peterson said, “I am thrilled to make this gift which continues what Mr. Petersen and I began two decades ago, to build the most important automotive museum in the nation. My intent in doing this is to provide the Museum with the necessary resources to continue to enhance its collections, curatorial expertise and exhibitions so that generations to come will be able to forever know the history of the automobile and its role in the evolution of our nation’s transportation system.”
The Petersen Automotive Museum opened in 1994 and fulfilled a longtime dream for the Petersens. As a life long car collector and automotive magazine publisher, Robert Petersen genuinely wanted to provide a resource for automotive history for people for years to come. Each year more than 150,000 visitors a year tour the museum which is located on Los Angeles’s Miracle Mile.
