It hadn’t really dawned on us until just now, but when it comes to modern vehicles, Chrysler doesn’t seem to be a huge fan of open-top motoring. Both of the company’s two sportiest models – the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Viper – are not offered in an open top configuration in their current generation, and no signs point to that changing any time soon. Well, not from the factory anyway – the aftermarket is another story.
Prefix, a company best known for being the outfit which is tasked with painting every fifth generation Viper that comes down the assembly line, has announced that they will be offering targa conversions for the newest Viper at a cost of $9,995.
Viper owners can take their cars either to Prefix directly or have the work done through their local dealership, and the resulting top chop will sport a removable carbon fiber roof panel that’s painted to match the body and is storable in the car’s trunk.
“We sincerely enjoy the friendships we have within the Viper community and appreciate hearing input directly from car owners and Viper Association members from around the globe,” explained Prefix President, Eric Zeile. “After we released the Medusa convertible version of the Viper last summer, we received many inquiries as to whether we would create a targa; it was a natural evolution.”
No word is given on how the conversion affects the Viper’s rigidity, but our guess is that if someone wants to get this done, that’s probably a low priority anyway. Interested Viper owners can find more information at the Prefix site.
