Preparing A 68 Bird On The Rotisserie

Whenever we find project cars being built, it’s always amazing what people do in their own garage and how well their projects come together. We love to see guys getting in there and getting busy with the tear down.

We found this 1968 Roadrunner over at For B Bodies Only forum and love how the project is coming along, aptly named “The Golden Rotisserie Chicken” and it’s going to be one fully prepared bird when it’s done.

The Roadrunner is a numbers matching car, a 383 with a 4 speed manual trans. It has some damage front and rear, but overall seems to be in very good shape and makes for a great project.

The owner started tearing it apart and found all sorts of remnants from decades past: pop-tops from beverage cans, coins and even a couple gas receipts. he didn’t mention the cost of a gallon of gas from the receipt, but since this is a family channel probably best to save the potential outbursts.

Once everything was torn apart, the decision was made to send it out to get chemically stripped, the old putty knife routine just wasn’t cutting it anymore. The great news was that it still had all the original sheet metal and the owner said that there were only about 4 spots that needed to be addressed, and all very small areas. Don’t we all wish that was the case with our own cars?

He had the car powder coated to protect the body, and that’s why the light gray seems a little glossy. But it was easy to remove and the paint and interior work is well underway, as well as getting the suspension installed up under the car.

If you’re thinking this is an incredibly clean car, we couldn’t agree more. This bird is getting prepared the right way, and it’s going to be an awesome car when he gets finished.
