If you dig Tin Indians, check out this story from QA1’s #goDRIVEit Series. 1955 Chevy’s get most of the limelight when it comes to mid-mod GM cars, but its corporate sibling Pontiac shared much componentry with its Bow Tie brethren and has sheet metal that you don’t see on every corner. Shawn Jones had a forlorn 1955 Pontiac 2-door post hanging around, so he transformed it into the knobby-tired bruiser you see here.
According to Shawn, “The car was a total rust bucket when it was brought to our facility, Schweaty’s Speed Shop, so we decided to take the old ratty Pontiac body and set it on a 2000 S10 chassis. The old Poncho is now powered by a 5.3 LS motor backed up by a 4L80E and rides on an amazing set of QA1 double adjustable coil-overs up front and QA1 adjustable shocks in the rear. I honestly cannot believe the improvement in handling the upgrade. The ‘55 Pontiac took us just under a year to toss together and we’ve logged about 13k miles on it since completion in June 2019. We enjoy the looks of approval and the occasional look of disgust from passersby on our road trips.”
Shawn tells us more, “QA1’s #goDRIVEit is the way it should be. Get out, drive, and enjoy your cars. I see too often that car enthusiasts will get a new project with every intention of building their dream car, tear it all apart, and it ends up on jack stands in the garage or out in the yard somewhere. They just get frustrated when they can’t finish their project to perfection and sadly give up on it. Cars don’t need to be perfect just fun. Take what you have put a little work into it and #goDRIVEit.”
