No matter if you’re a cable subscriber or not, you’re probably well aware that reality TV has pretty much taken over evening television, but you don’t have to be a fan of shows like Big Brother, Jersey Shore or Survivor to appreciate the next potential reality show to hit the airwaves. According to The Sanford Herald, that’s because rather than scripted drama, we can expect to see real talent, real conflict, and really nice hot rods if reality series “Red Hot Rods” is produced. At least that’s what acting producers of the show Marklen Kennedy and Matthew Borlenghi are aiming for.
Set to be based at Bo’s Hot Rods & Restorations, a Sanford, North Carolina-based shop, Red Hot Rods would follow the daily workings of the Southern rod shop owned by James “Bo” Boyer. According to the Kennedy and Borlenghi, Bo’s makes for the perfect set of a reality TV series because of the shop’s reputation for producing award winning cars, the father and son hierarchy within the shop that leads to generational clashes and the inherent appeal of the American hot rod on the general public.
Boyer’s son Matt currently works the shop with his father, along with Boyer’s business partner Jimmie Bullis. While show-worthy rods and customs would be the main theme of the series, tensions between father, son and business partner are expected to fuel a substantial following, according to producers.
Shot in its fledgling stage, Red Hot Rods now must be picked up by a network like Discover, Spike or History to actually air but Kennedy and Borlenghi are confident that they’ve found the next big reality hit. With clips in hand, both men returned to their offices in Las Vegas and Los Angeles last week to start working on getting the show a place in primetime with the hopes that it will air in November or early next year.

While we can’t blame you for not getting into the Shore Craze, Survivor mode or whatever the latest reality TV following is, Red Hot Rods is sure to bring a new dimension to reality TV and the hot rod community if produced. And we can’t say that we aren’t routing for the change!
