Ricky Bobby has had his ups and downs in stock car racing, so has Robby Gordon. He’s experienced in IMSA and Open Wheel, but chances are you know him as a television personality – first on NASCAR, and second on his TV reality show on SpeedFactory.tv.
With good things coming from Auburn Hills, MI these days (you’ve seen the Chrysler commercial from the Super Bowl, right?), Robby felt that it was a good time to return to NASCAR Sprint Cup competition in a Dodge.
According to Fox Sports, Robby liked the direction the company was moving in, especially with young blood like Dodge’s CEO Ralph Gilles and Dodge Motorsports’ Bryan Viger. Says Robby, “They have good ideas. Their cars are stylish. It was the first time, even though I was with Dodge before that I had factory help.” And, to make you Toyota haters giddy, he had this to add, “Toyota didn’t have any help to offer. I’m impressed with [Dodge] cars. And anyone who hasn‘t been to Dodge, it‘s a beautiful facility.”
Since 2006, Robby has operated his own team in NASCAR, running cars from various manufacturers. He has indicated that he’s excited to be back in the Dodge fold, no doubt due to his past success with Dodge. Penske is handling the engines, so perhaps that’ll whet his appetite?
It’s been awhile since Robby has tasted victory in the Cup series, although Robby Gordon Motorsports is the most successful single car team in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. For the 2010 season, he placed 34th in NASCAR point standings, although he split his time between stock cars and off-road trucks.
