This Saturday, November 17th and Sunday, November 18th at 9/8am CST you will want to tune your televisions to SpikeTV and watch Tim Strange, host of Search & Restore assemble a highly talented group of car builders to transform an average ’51 Hudson Hornet into an incredible rolling work of art. Last week we gave you small preview of what’s to come, and here’s some more action from behind the scenes!
Rod Authority was granted top secret access into the PowerBlock shop to witness what it takes to orchestrate this massive build with only two weeks. Tim Strange, who also owns his own shop called Strange Motion, is no stranger to the highly stressful time constraints of getting a job like this completed.
As Brian, Glass Guy Chicago sets the windshield, father and son team and owners of Currupt Customs, Daryl and Corey Glenn make sure the controls for the air suspension are correct.
Tim contacted each one of the 38 member build team to be sure they are ready for this marathon build. And those talented individuals agree to close their shop or take time off to volunteer thousands of man hours in order to have a hand in getting this project complete. “I really work hard to get the right people here the right weeks that I know can do the work and the quality I need. That’s the biggest hurdle when putting these cars together in just four weeks time,” Tim told us.
Working at this pace, it's very improtant to be sure all the details are just right. These guys are building a fully functional hot rod, not just a TV car.
This Hudson came together incredibly and you will see during the show how much detail work went into this car. Brian Harding, who owns Glass Guy Chicago, mentioned, “I am absolutely blown away. I didn’t think a car like this could turn out looking the way is does with so many different people involved in building it. It looks amazing.” Brian was asked to come in the shop to custom cut all the glass because of the custom glass work he has done in movies, shows and hot rods.
When it comes right down to it, even though there is heart ache and tremendous amount of work, these builders know that by going that extra mile that it’s not only touching Tom Moore’s life, but also the lives of his whole family. Doing his best to hold back his emotions, Tom told us, “It’s humbling to know that people who don’t know me would do so much work out of the goodness of their heart, it’s very overwhelming.”
Tim and the build team lay out the paint and stripes together. And we learned something very important when crunched for time and installing new hardware; it's the placement of the tongue that helps it all bolt on smoothly. An unexpected fan of the show, Sam Hornish Jr., stopped by to learn a little bit about how the show works and what it takes to build a hot rod in 4 weeks.
You won’t want to miss the back to back 4 part episode of Search & Restore. We guarantee it to be an exciting and heart touching story of how we can help to touch the lives of fellow hot rodders who may be in a situation that they can’t enjoy this hobby the way they would like. Be sure to be in front of SpikeTV, during PowerBlock for Search & Restore tomorrow or Sunday, November 17th & 18th at 9/8am CST.
