SEMA 2018: Cragar’s New Move Returns Them To Their Roots

Cragar wheels remain a staple on hot rods and muscle cars by offering old-school wheels in a variety of sizes, and fitments.

Cragar wheels have been a staple on hot rods and muscle cars since before anyone can remember. We caught up with them at SEMA 2018, and discovered they have recently made a move, and have shifted gears toward what garnered their iconic status in the first place. They’re lean and mean, and doing what they’re great at.

We spoke with Steve Swanson from Cragar, and he explained how their decision to relocate manufacturing, and refocus their attention on specific lines of wheels was a precursor for a return to form. “Cragar, over the last several years – because of our transition from manufacturing products in Ontario, California, to manufacturing products in Lincoln, South Carolina – we were afforded the opportunity to trim and streamline our product lines, and doing so raised a lot of questions as to who and what we are today.”

That moment of reflection as a company allowed Cragar to assess what makes them great and focus on providing their customers with the fantastic products we all know and love. From the famed S/S Super Sports, and Keystone Classics, to all the offerings from their new line of “Modern Muscle” wheels, Cragar is doing an amazing job of keeping things fresh and classic at the same time.

Steve also told us they aren’t looking to recreate the wheel – no pun intended. He said, “With Cragar, what we’ve come to the conclusion of is this – let’s make what we’ve got more universal in it’s application – not come out with brand new styles. We’re not reinventing the name Cragar, but what we are doing is developing. For example, with the addition of the all-aluminum Rally Wheel, we are expanding on the original Rally look, but giving resto-modders a familiar aesthetic from a 1968 Camaro – yet they can put new high-performance brake packages behind them.”

So, whether you’re a fan of the vintage and classic styling of Cragar wheels, or you are looking for something that has an old-school look while catering to new-school performance, Cragar has an option for you. You can check out all of their offerings on their website cragarwheel.com.
