At the simple and understated Recaro Automotive Seating booth, we were able to glimpse five of their newest offerings. Stylish, sleek, comfortable, and supportive, this new lineup caters to the vintage muscle car fan, the modern Corvette owner, and even the professional racer. Come take a look.
Expert M Houndstooth
This classic seat is relatively narrow, but still provides plenty of wraparound for comfort. With modern lumbar support yet a classic appearance, it appeals to those interested in adding a little safety to a classic car without disrupting the aesthetic. Covered in gorgeous houndstooth fabric, an extremely soft and pliant material, the Expert M Houndstooth suits any classic car — Carrera or Camaro.
Sportster GT
Built in Detroit, this modern sports seat sits somewhere between a dedicated racing shell and a comfortable street seat. With different color options, an optional carbon weave, aggressive bolsters and harness pass-throughs, the reclinable Sportster GT is a wonderful modification for someone looking to outfit their modern sports car with something that can provide comfort on the highway and enough support on the odd track day.
Speed V
Leather, a carbon weave, and a variety of colors offer the sophistication one expects in a Corvette. Corvette owners know how hard it is to get a nice aftermarket seat — most just don’t fit. However, this seat has been thinned and trimmed to fit the narrow confines of a Corvette’s cabin. The seat is slim enough to suit the C6 and C7 cabins, but wide enough to accommodate a gentleman of generous proportions.
Profi/Profi XL
The FIA-certified racing shell is meant to fit someone like a glove — but still comfortable enough and easily entered and exited to make it usable on the street — though it’s undoubtedly a focused option for a focused driver. For guys looking to put some track time in and make sure that they’re safe in a modern racing shell, this is a good way to go.
The Profi XL features “built-in” structured lumbar support and shock-absorbing foam; this ergonomic S-shaped fiberglass racing shell seat protects against spinal compression. The XL seat fits average-size North American drivers; the standard size fits smaller drivers.
Pro Racer XL
For the larger driver moving into regular track days or even professional racing, the Pro Racer XL is the way to go. With improved head and neck protection, as well as the distinctive “dog ears” which limit lateral head movement in the event of a crash, the Pro Racer XL is without a doubt, one of the safest and lightest racing shells on the market today. Recaro actually has an FIA-certified slider kit, which is unique to the industry for those of you who might swap seat time with a partner.

For those moving into the big leagues, this FIA-certified shell provides all the safety needed at a reasonable cost. Note, the FIA-certified slider kit on this seat — one of the only ones in the industry.
Arguably the best on the market, these seats can be optioned, sized, and retrimmed in a variety of ways; unique options in colors or materials can be selected through the local dealer. For more on these stunning items and their customization process, consult Recaro’s site here, or for more on the general mechanics and design principles they use in their racing seats, you can peruse this in-depth article here. Whichever model suits your needs, it can be tailored to the perfect addition for road car or racing toy.

Did you know that Recaro actually started out building cars before it really made a name for itself making seats? This cool timeline in the booth shows you the history of the company. Pretty cool!
