It is a sad sight to behold when a car that used to be something quite amazing has been left to deteriorate over the years. Owners usually refuse sale due to sentimental reasons, or when they do want to sell it, being so sentimental is good enough reason to ask way over what it is worth.
According to CarsinBarns, Frank drives past this old, rotting Shelby everyday on his way home from work. The car sits at a “small and rather messy” car repair shop where it is left to fend for itself against the elements. Frank says that the car has been sitting for 15 long years.
About a year ago on his way home, Frank decided to make the stop and inquire about the car. According to the shop owner, the car is numbers-matching and he had rebuilt the engine and was going to start on restoration soon. When Frank took a look at the engine sitting inside the shop, he noticed that it was painted the wrong color and all of the cast parts were heavily oxidized. The owner then mentioned that the transmission was “on the floor somewhere”.
When asked whether the car was for sale, he said he would sell it for the right price, but Frank didn’t have the time to take on such a project. Upon leaving, he wished the owner the best in his restoration efforts. “What a shame,” says Frank. We couldn’t agree more.
